Rising Star of the Week

Cody Marshall

In a feud in which people may have wanted The Philly Kid to finally prove to Cody Marshall that he deserved a place on Showdown, it was Cody who got the last laugh. As I believed the two of them fought their hardest to win their FPV debut match, Cody happened to be one step ahead of his competition the entire time. Perhaps, seeing him win at FPVs or even a special event like this could be something that we might consider soon, but Cody took the spotlight he was in and made the most of his opportunity. Now that he seems to have broken out of the rivalry with The Philly Kid, my question is what is next for this guy? Being new around EAW, what can he do to add more victories under his belt? On Showdown, this week, he is facing one of his biggest competitions to date, Ryan Savage. Ryan is probably not happy about not walking out the New Breed Champion, so they’re could be frustration on his part, but Cody is going to need to be smart and get the big guy off his feet if he wants to leave with the victory.

Beef of the Week

New Breed Championship Scramble

Speaking of the New Breed Championship, this prize played in role of Beef of the Week. One of the reasons why this is the Beef of the Week was because Chris Elite, Nobi, Nick Angel, Ryan Savage and our NEW New Breed Champion, Rex McAllister used the platform to bring some shine into the New Breed Division. I thought every single one of these guys really rose to the occasion and made everyone look at the New Breed Division as a Division, where they have some kick ass promoers who are willing to do anything to become the New Breed Champion. The New Breed Championship is a championship that has been held by Hall of Famers, if you hold this championship, it means that there is a possibility that you could one day hold one out of the three major World Championships in EAW. Chris did a great job as champion. He fought his hardest to keep that belt by his side, but I’m happy that Rex was able to go over because he is one of the most underrated guys in EAW. I’m glad that he is finally getting his time to shine! Congrats, Rex!

Show of the Week

Showdown: Rite of Passage

Obviously, I was going to say Showdown: Rite of Passage. This special event exceeded all my expectations. I was a little concerned about how they were going to make this special event work. I don’t know if it was just me, but I felt there was just a few matches on a card—even for a special event, but no matter how I felt, I believed they made it work like I hoped they would. Matches like Tyler Parker vs. Nico Borg and Ares Vendetta vs. Tiberius Jones vs. The Pizza Boy stole the show. I was on the edge of my seat reading them. There was moment that I did not see coming like Devan Dubian winning the Hall of Fame Championship or Nico Borg cashing in his 24/7 contract to steal the National Elite Championship from The Pizza Boy after the grueling match The Pizza Boy had gone through. This event also raised a couple questions. For example: how much does Ares need to take before he officially loses it? With Tyler Parker racing out there before Ares could put more damage to his friend, could we see Ares next target? What’s next for Lioncross? Will Methuselah get his rematch for the Hall of Fame Championship or will a new contender rise and try their luck at taking the title away from Devan?

Match of the Week

Devan Dubian vs. Methuselah

Speaking of Methuselah and Devan Dubian, their match happened to be my Match of the Week. For starters, I believed the match was amazingly written from head to toe. I could not imagine anyone else worthy enough to take the title from Methuselah. Devan is someone who crosses my mind as someone that could elevate the championship to prestige like Methuselah and Xavier Williams did. With Scott Oasis placing Devan on top of Methuselah, there might be some eyebrows raised about whether Devan would have defeated Methuselah without Scott Oasis’ help. I believe time will be the one to tell whether Devan is worthy enough to be Hall of Fame Champion. I thought this was a good way to get the title off Methuselah without him losing cleanly. With the interference from Scott, it progresses Oasis/Meth when most thought that the feud had ended. I’m kind of hoping that Scott manages to get a victory since he lost the last match, but Methuselah just lost that title and he could be looking for some sort of redemption from losing the title.

Promoer of the Week

Everyone who promoed for Rite of Passage

Honestly, you guys make my job very difficult to do. I thought every person on the Showdown brand brought it for Rite of Passage. Saw godly promos from Methuselah. Devan did a solid job. Saw wonderful banter between Tyler and Nico. The New Breed Scramble match already got their praise, but they all did good. Ares was fantastic. The Pizza Boy and Tiberius Jones stepped up to the plate and did a great job. Overall, it was not only the show that was great, but the activity from this brand has been good. This should be an example of what a brand should be—great matches and great promoing left and right. I was not disappointed at all. Shock Value has got some competition. It should be a fun FPV, but I’m hoping that we can keep this wonderful streak going for special events and FPVs.

Champion of the Week

Ares Vendetta

If I am being correct right now, Ares Vendetta is the only champion on Showdown that retained his title? Excuse me if I’m wrong, but I think this should be added to the million reasons about why Ares Vendetta is GOAT. At this point, I don’t think anything could stop Ares. Not even one out of the two men in the Answers World Championship match could defeat him. What makes you think that one man is going to have what it takes to defeat him? As of right now, it seems unclear about who is going to be Ares’ next challenger, but he does have Road to Redemption to worry about. Will this be the event that Ares’ finally get dethroned? Or will he pull a Brian Daniels and retain in the Elimination Chamber? If feel like if there was ever a time to make Ares drop the title, it could be here since there’s going to be a bunch of guys inside a chamber. I feel like this could be a smart way to get the title off him, but I have to see who’s going to be locked inside the structure to see if I maintain my prediction.

Vixen of the Week

Cailin Dillon

For Vixen of the Week this week, I had a pretty difficult time choosing which Vixen was worthy of this award, but I must give it to Cailin Dillon. Not only did she pick up a victory, but she got a victory over a returning Brody Sparks who managed to step up to the plate and give Cailin a fight for the victory on Empire. In this war against Team Sirens and Team OG, they were in desperate need of some sort of retribution. Cailin happened to be one of the only member of Team Sirens to pick up a victory, which their team needs going into Shock Value. Cailin has always managed to be the girl that anyone could rely on for anything, so it should not be a surprise that she managed to collect a victory. She may not be booked for a match this week, but on Empire we will be hear from her as she reflects on her Empress of Elite victory. I wonder if this will be where we will see her finally decided if she’ll face Kendra Shamez for the Specialist Championship or will she face her Team Sirens member, Sheridan Muller for the Vixens Championship at Road to Redemption. Whoever she picks, it’s going to be a challenging road ahead of her and I’ll be looking forward to see the build up towards it.

Most Valuable Elitist

Devan Dubian

Congrats to the new Hall of Fame Champion, Devan Dubian! He is our Most Valuable Elitist this week. For this award, I had a pretty difficult time with deciding who I wanted to be our Most Valuable Elitist. We have three new champions and as much as I wanted to put all of them on this list, I knew that I had to pick just one of them. Rex and Nico, it was a difficult choice and I kept changing my choice for MVE throughout the week. Your title wins are recognized by everyone and we know that you will make the most out of your future opportunities. As for Devan, there was a part of me that wanted to say that Methuselah was going to walk out of Showdown: Rite of Passage with the title; however, there was probably no other guy who was worthy of taking the title away from Methuselah other than Devan. Not only did he get traded to Showdown just a few weeks ago, but now, he manages to make himself one of the top talents. Hell, he can become not only the Hall of Fame Champion, but the Answers World Champion as well and that should be exciting for him to think about. I feel like being part of Showdown will provide Devan with an opportunity to really shine and with all of the new champions on the Showdown brand, it is going to make Showdown a million times more exciting.
