Julianna DeMarco: Season one, round one, game one! And what an incredible game to kick off the inaugural EFL season as the Generals hosted the Bombers from the Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut! 41,918 diehard football fans in attendance for this one! The EAW Chairman who is now the EFL Commissioner AND the social ambassador to the Connecticut Generals Ryan Adams, better known as Mr. DEDEDE, was sitting in attendance from his skybox tonight with EAW Specialists Champion Megan Raine as well!
The Generals managed to get off to a hot start, scoring a touchdown in the opening two minutes of the game courtesy of their offensive captain and leading quarterback Casey Buchanan! The Bombers managed to prevent a second touchdown early in the first quarter with solid defence, and struck back with a field goal in the dying seconds to end the first quarter! As the second quarter began it was a defensive clinic the entire way through, with both teams preventing two touchdowns each! The Generals managed to get 1st and Goal with 10 seconds remaining and kicked a field goal to extend the lead to 10-3 at the end of the half!
As the second half kicked off, well… it was ALL Brooklyn Bombers! The league projections showed that Brooklyn were one of the worst defensive sides going into this season, but the Bombers sure took those predictions and tore them a new one! Their defensive team prevented four touchdowns in this quarter alone, with three interceptions in the Generals half of the field! Brooklyn’s wide receiver Nathaniel Blair scored an incredible touchdown as their leading offensive quarterback Clifford Marsh threw a fifty yard hail mary into their end zone with 3:03 left on the clock! An unfortunate missed goal attempt after the touchdown didn’t affect their confidence as they managed to kick another field goal twenty yards out to end the third quarter, and taking the lead 13-10!
Generals offensive head coach Carson Jennings knew something had to change in the fourth, and while the Generals offensive squad made some strides early on in the fourth, a turnover costed them a potential touchdown and perhaps even the nail in the coffin. As Brooklyn took possession, they managed to score a touchdown almost with ease with a point after touchdown to follow, extending their lead 20-10! When it all seemed to be out of reach for the Generals, with three minutes left in the game, Generals wide receiver Ricardo Hubbard did the UNTHINKABLE and scored a touchdown from 1st and goal to make the score 20-16! However, the home team would fail in kicking the PAT as Vincent Duncan shanked it as the ball went too far left. The clock ran out in the end, and the Bombers picked up their first win of the season, and the first game of the EFL ended in a spectacular game!
